Feminist Frequency, a website for education that examines women's roles in pop culture narratives was the result of her research. She also serves as the director of operations. Committed to deconstructing the stereotypes that are associated with females in pop culture she also seeks to bring attention to harassment targeted at women and the other marginalized groups of individuals in the internet environment. Sarkeesian has given speeches at the TEDxWomen Festival as well as to the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Inquiring about gender identities and feminisms from an early age she launched her website Feminist Frequency in 2009 while studying at the University. She had a plan to start a web-based series on gender representation in video games and was the subject of a harassment online campaign. But the harassment did not discourage her. It only strengthened her in her role as a feminist journalist. She has won numerous awards for her contribution to feministism. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for several years and founded Feminist Frequency. This educational nonprofit explores women's representations within the popular culture stories.
